LILY HELMLY

Dance Artist 

Medium: Dance

​

Lily began dancing at the age of 3 at the British Academy of Performing Arts in Marietta, GA. While at BAPA she trained in ballet, modern, jazz, and tap with Bethany Elias, Marina Levasheva, Jennifer Smiles Plumley, and Marie Hunter. She was a member of the school’s pre-professional dance company, Academy Dance Company, for 11 years.  Lily performed several leading roles in ballet excerpts such as Kitri in Don Quixote, Gamzatti in the Grand Pas de Deux from La Bayadere, Bluebird in Sleeping Beauty, as well as featured roles in original works of all genres of dance. She now is an instructor and choreographer at BAPA.

Lily is currently a third-year dance major at Kennesaw State University with a concentration in ballet. At KSU she has the opportunity to work with Christine Welker, McCree O’Kelley, Lisa Lock, Andrea Knowlton, and Sean Nguyen-Hilton. She has been a member of the KSU Dance Company for four semesters and has also been a member of the production crew. As a member of the company, she has performed in works by McCree O’Kelley, Martha Goodman, and many student-choreographed works.

 

In Spring of 2019, she had the opportunity to participate in the southeast conference of the American College Dance Association as well as perform in the Atlanta contemporary dance festival, Off the Edge, as a part of the KSU Dance Company. She is also employed as a production student assistant under David J. Tatu for the Department of Dance, and has held student leadership positions in the both the KSU Dance Company and KSU’s chapter of the National Honor Society for Dance Arts. Additionally, through the dance program at KSU, Lily had the opportunity to intern under general manager, Thomas Fowlkes, at the Atlanta Ballet.
